Sword Oratoria: Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? On The Side

What is it with Japanese creators and their ridiculously long show titles? Do you think they are overcompensating for something? This twelve-episode DanMachi spin-off follows the Loki Familia guild, on their journey through a dungeon infested with monsters. The fantasy themed story is pretty straightforward, aside from some mysteries that sadly remain unanswered by the time this cour finishes. Oh the joys of anime adaptations based on light novels that have yet to reach a definitive conclusion.

The protagonist of this tale is a stoic fighter named Ais Wallenstein. She resembles a less fleshed out Violet Evergarden. If you prefer girls with a bit more personality fear not, as she is accompanied by an emotional Elven sidekick (who secretly has the hots for her.) Sword Oratoria is a three star series in my opinion. Nothing special, but DanMachi fans who seek more animated adventures set in the same universe should enjoy it. As the lengthy and cumbersome title suggests, this show is a spin-off from an existing series, featuring one of the characters from the fantasy comedy Is it Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? and giving them a moment in the spotlight. I’ve not seen the parent show but it would appear this isn’t an issue as the lead and her support cast are introduced as if this was a fresh series.

The titular dungeon is not, in fact, a vast underground lair where people are interred and subject to daily torture, instead it is the name given to the multi-level area beneath the Tower of Babel in…

    • I pretty much lost my passion for blogging a few months back. Don’t want to abandon the site though. Will stick around to read other people’s work and reblog good stuff I find that my followers may have interest in.

      • Sorry to hear that, especially as your numbers were on the increase (example – this post got more likes my original one…. ) too. :-/

If you don’t mind me asking, is is just blogging or is your work cutting into your free time which is getting you down?

      • I guess work doesn’t help. After a shift I feel so mentally drained that it saps any desire to write. That said in general I have a habit of getting burnt out whenever I do the same thing for a number of years. A similar thing happened when I had a YouTube channel. After a while I closed the account because what started out as fun became a chore.

  1. It is pretty funny all the extremely long titles. I feel sorry for all the graphic designers and layout artists who have to try to fit all those words on a cover and make it look good.

    • Anime and video games have quite a few examples of products with lengthy titles. Such a pain to type out for a review. I’m guessing when written in Japanese the name doesn’t use up so many characters.

  2. It served its purpose as another female centered spinoff of a main show I have no interest in (Exceptions being Soul Eater, Ghost in the Shell and MAYBE Luck & Logic) but of all the ones I’ve seen so far it’s the weakest. Decent show overall but I didn’t enjoy it as much as other female centered spinoffs.

      • Sword Oratoria was more action-packed than Soul Eater NOT. I’ll give it that. Yes. NOT was more Slice of Life than the main series. Still liked it.

I don’t pay attention to what the mainstream thinks of anything when looking up what to watch.

  3. Hahahaha… the title sounds like the author is having a bit of a moral dilemma πŸ˜€ But I sort of love it all the same πŸ™‚
Some of the titles are getting ridiculously long. I’m just waiting for the day where the title is a paragraph long and longer than the description hehe πŸ˜€
